Twelve people have died after three vehicles collided between Whittlesea and Queenstown in the Eastern Cape.

Twelve people were killed when three vehicles collided between Whittlesea and Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, police said on Friday.

Lieutenant-Colonel Gcinikaya Taleni said a bakkie, carrying eight people, collided head-on with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the R67 on Thursday night. A third car then hit the SUV.

Among the deceased was a ten-year-old girl.

Nine men, aged between 35 and 50, and two women died.

Two others were injured and taken to Frontier Hospital.

Culpable homicide cases were opened.

The names of the deceased would be released once their next-of-kin were informed. – Sapa
