The trial of a biker arrested for speeding has been postponed.
|||The trial of a biker arrested for speeding was postponed in the Vryburg Magistrate's Court, the North West department of public safety said on Tuesday.
The man was released on free bail and was expected to make his second appearance on May 2 in the same court, department spokesman Simon Mmope said.
In a statement, he said 39-year-old Eugene Daniel Smit was arrested on Monday morning along the N14 road about 20km to Vryburg.
Smith was arrested for alleged reckless driving and speeding – 226km/h in a 120km/h zone.
“The suspect, who was riding from Kuruman to Gauteng, failed to stop when he was instructed to do so by the traffic official and was arrested after an alert was made to those officials who were around the Vryburg town.”
North West MEC for human settlements, public safety and liaison Desbo Mohono said she was confident that intensified speed law enforcement supported by firm court sentences would contribute to reducing accidents and fatalities, Mmope said. – Sapa
