|||A grade eight pupil was stabbed to death in a fight over a cellphone at a Durban school on Tuesday, KwaZulu-Natal education spokesman Sihle Mlotshwa said.
A fellow pupil stabbed 15-year-old Siphesihle Gcwensa at Clairwood Secondary School. Further details were not immediately available.
There had been a total of four stabbings in KwaZulu-Natal schools in the last month, resulting in the deaths of three pupils, Mlotshwa said.
“This is a result of the increase in the number of pupils who carry dangerous weapons into the schools.”
He urged parents to help stop this. Last week a hunting knife, a screwdriver, a rusty pair of scissors and eight packets of dagga were seized from pupils when education MEC Senzo Mchunu visited Mandlenkosi High School. – Sapa
