|||Durban soaked in the party mood yesterday with lively parties all over the metro.
Last night’s rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the more determined revellers at the Moses Mabhida Stadium’s People’s Park where a star-studded line-up set the sparks going for the New Year’s Eve mother of all parties.
It starred DJs like Oskido, Tira and Twitty and renowned acts like Big Nuz, Teargas, Professor, Zakes Bantwini and many others.
Called “Fact Durban Rocks”, it was the main Durban event that brought celebrities, mostly local, together at a single venue.
Fashion icon Uyanda Mbuli turned out to party in Durban. “I was at Moses Mabhida People’s Park at the Fact Durban Rocks New Year’s Eve party, supporting my girl DJ Cndo and Big Nuz. I love the Durban movement and how Tira has put Durban on the map. He rolled out the red carpet for me last night, it was fabulous.”
Prominent Durban businessman and racehorse owner, Roy Moodley, had a full itinerary for New Year’s Eve. Moodley jetted off to Las Vegas for a much anticipated holiday, but still managed to make a stop at the Square Boutique Hotel in Umhlanga, where a number of Durban personalities attended a swanky New Year’s bash.
“I am looking forward to my overseas holiday. It’s nice to have a break after a lot of hard work,” Moodley said.
Also at the Square hotel was theatre actor and TV presenter Jailoshini Naidoo, who said that she was looking forward to a busy 2012.
Some celebrities, however, opted to stay at home.
Durban celebrity and socialite, Sorisha Naidoo, said she kept a low profile this year. “We had a quiet late New Year’s Eve lunch with 80 of our close family and friends. I try and not go out on New Year’s Eve…”
Meanwhile the festivities continue today in Umgababa, south of Durban with the Umgababa New Year’s Day Picnic.
This party is going to rock until tomorrow morning and will feature class acts like Teargas, Malini, M’du Masilela, Zakes Bantwini, DJ Mlisa, DJ Menace, Shabalala Rhythm, Phuzekhemisi, Msawawa, Big Nuz Bullistic, DJ Oros, Shota, Gagasi99.5’s King Sifiso and others. - Tribune Reporter
