Customers who bought tickets from Computicket for flights on Velvet Sky, the airline now in limbo, are set to be reimbursed.

Computicket Travel announced on Wednesday that it would refund R2.2 million worth of tickets for flights that were grounded, although the onus for refunds lay with Velvet Sky.

Whitey Basson, CEO of the Shoprite Group of Companies that owns Computicket Travel, said: “It is important we assist our customers in every way possible so that they don’t lose their hard-earned money as a result of this unforeseen event relating to a service provider.”

A Velvet Sky official, who would not be named because he was not allowed to speak to the media, said there were plans to refund customers whose flights had been cancelled.

People who bought Velvet Sky tickets from Computicket Travel can claim their refunds at any Computicket outlet, Checkers or Shoprite Checkers store next week.

For more information, call 0861 915 4000, or visit http://online.computicket.com/travel/.

People who bought their tickets via credit card can also attempt to claim their money back from their banks by initiating a chargeback dispute, if they have been unsuccessful in getting their money back from Velvet Sky.

Absa card-holders have 120 days from the date of travel reflected on the ticket to claim, and Nedbank clients have 30 days from the date of travel. FNB clients have 180 days from the date of the transaction, and Standard Bank clients have 120 days from the time the service was not rendered. - The Mercury
