The fast food chain Nando's has delivered a substantial order to the Johannesburg Children's Home in response to a challenge by Santam.
|||Johannesburg - The fast food chain Nando's delivered a substantial order to the Johannesburg Children's Home on Thursday, a spokesperson said.
“We have done it already... We didn't want to disappoint,” said Quentin Cronje, the Nando's marketing director.
Nando's will deliver food to the Johannesburg Children's Home every month for the next 12 months.
The delivery followed a “challenge” put to it by the insurance company Santam, after Nando's aired a spoof of one of its advertisements.
In another advertisement on Tuesday, the insurance company said it was flattered and willing to overlook the advert if Nando's delivered an order of food and drinks to the Children's Home by 4pm on Thursday.
The delivery on Thursday included 62 orders of lemon and herb half-chicken and chips with coleslaw, 12 children's meals with chips and toys, 74 hot sticky toffee puddings, 74 assorted cold drinks, and a Portuguese salad.
Cronje said Nando's would surprise viewers on Thursday night with another television commercial which would confirm the delivery.
In the original Santam advert, British actor Ben Kingsley is seen standing in front of a bar while the waiter behind him comes and goes, with a subtle change in his clothing each time.
The Nando's ad showed an actor posing as Kingsley in the same setting, but with various Nando's meals placed on the counter by a waiter.
Cronje said Santam's response was in incredibly good taste and it was amazing that two South African brands could work together. - Sapa
