A man was arrested on Saturday for raping a woman at a Taung graveyard, North West police said.

He and another man had robbed the 23-year-old woman and her aunt at 2:30am on Saturday, said Brigadier Thulane Ngubane.

They allegedly took money and cellphones and fled, but later confronted the same woman and her aunt who were walking in the street.

The younger woman was dragged to a graveyard where she was raped. Her aunt managed to escape.

In a separate incident, a 31-year-old woman was gang-raped, also in Taung, by three men on Saturday.

“According to the information... the victim was asleep with her boyfriend when five suspects entered the house,” said Ngubane.

The boyfriend was assaulted and tied up before three of the intruders raped the woman.

Two cellphones, shoes and groceries were taken from the house.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery and rape. No arrests have been made.

In a third separate incident, a 22-year-old woman was raped by her 17-year-old cousin on Friday in the Utlwanang township outside Christiana.

Ngubane said the woman was asleep when the cousin raped her.

He was later arrested by police.

In another similar incident in Ikakeng, a 30-year-old man was arrested for raping his 17-year-old cousin on Friday.

Ngubane said the incident happened at the Top City informal settlement.

It is alleged that the two were sleeping in a shack when the man raped the boy.

The man has been arrested and is due to appear in court. - Sapa
