|||A grave at an Anglo Boer War cemetery in Ladysmith was plundered by robbers, Amafa Heritage KwaZulu-Natal said on Sunday.
Amafa IT director James van Vuuren said its contractors were maintaining the Intombi Camp Military Cemetery last week when they discovered a broken headstone, and a two-metre hole in one of the graves.
“We don't know who the culprits are, but (we) believe they were looking for relics such as buttons and badges,” he said.
“It's wasted effort on the part of the culprits, since this is a formal cemetery, and the personal effects of the dead would probably have been removed before burial.”
A charge was laid with the police.
Van Vuuren said Amafa was offering a reward to anyone who had information that could lead to an arrest. - Sapa
