The mother of a five-year-old disabled boy who burnt to death in a shack fire in Phelindaba, Sharpeville, has been arrested.
|||The mother of a five-year-old disabled boy who burnt to death in a shack fire in Phelindaba, Sharpeville, has been arrested, Gauteng police said on Monday.
The woman, 25, allegedly left the boy locked in their home on Saturday evening while she went on a drinking spree, Warrant Officer Aubrey Moopeloa said.
On Sunday at 5am, police were patrolling the area when they saw smoke coming from the shack. On investigation they found the boy's body in the smouldering ruins.
The mother was summoned from a nearby tavern and arrested, Moopeloa said.
Although the woman had not yet been formally charged, she was expected to appear in court soon. - Sapa
