|||Johannesburg - The Mogale City municipality in Gauteng will help University of Johannesburg stampede victim Gloria Sekwena's family make sure she gets a dignified burial.
It had provided food, beverages and erected mobile toilets at the Sekwena home ahead of her funeral, municipality spokesperson Nkosana Zali said on Tuesday.
“We supply other kinds of support such as daily presence of our political leaders, not only to provide emotional and psychological comfort, but to be at their beck and call to attend to things that require urgent attention.”
Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane pledged to provide Gloria Sekwena's family with counselling after the burial. Her spokesperson Xoli Mngambi said the premier was concerned about the family's well-being.
Sekwena, 47, was killed in a stampede at the University of Johannesburg's Bunting Road campus on January 10. She had accompanied her 19-year-old son Kgositsile, to see him through late applications at the university.
Sekwena's memorial service would be held on Wednesday at the municipal hall. She would be buried at the Sterkfontein cemetery on Saturday. - Sapa
