Four men arrested for wounding a police officer and three others during an armed robbery have appeared in court.
|||Four men arrested for wounding a police officer and three others during an armed robbery appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The case against the men, allegedly members of a gang that robbed a jewellery store at the Randridge Mall in Gauteng, was postponed until Friday.
Levert Ndou, Thulane Madondo, Ian Mncube and Thabo Dlamini face three charges of attempted murder, possession of stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm, reckless and negligent driving and armed robbery.
They were arrested on Saturday after allegedly holding staff and customers at gunpoint, stealing jewellery, then opening fire, wounding a toddler and his grandmother, and another man.
The police gave chase when they tried to make their getaway in a bakkie. A police officer was wounded in the ensuing shoot-out.
The postponement was to allow Dlamini to consult with his legal representative.
Madondo and Ndou told the court they too would be represented by Dlamini's lawyer and also had to consult with him.
Mncube said he would seek the assistance of Legal Aid.
Ndou told the court he was previously jailed for three years for house breaking. Mncube, who is also a Zimbabwean, had been imprisoned for 18 months for fraud.
The other two had no criminal records.Sapa
