Nine nabbed for illegal guns

Nine people were arrested in Hanover Park, Cape Town, on Thursday afternoon for possession of illegal firearms.

Nine people were arrested in Hanover Park, Cape Town, on Thursday afternoon for possession of illegal firearms, Western Cape police said.

“Three firearms were confiscated during two separate incidents,” Lt-Col Andrè Traut said.

The first saw a 15-year-old boy and his 61-year-old father arrested for possessing two illegal firearms. In the second case seven youths aged between 16 and 20 were arrested for being in possession of a stolen gun.

The arrests took place following violence in Hanover Park earlier on Thursday.

A 20-year-old man was shot and injured at 3.50am, several shots were fired at a police car at 9.50am, with no injuries reported, and a 55-year-old woman was injured after being shot at 1.40pm.

Police would continue to maintain a large presence in Hanover Park. - Sapa
