Pretoria police are investigating the death of a man who was impaled by iron rods at the Kruger Park building.
|||Johannesburg - A man was killed on Sunday afternoon in Pretoria after being impaled by iron rods in a condemned building, Tshwane metro police said.
“It is suspected that the man had by-passed the security officers at the flats and was attempting to steal some iron or copper parts at the high-rise buildings situated in the west of the Tshwane CBD,” spokesperson Console Tleane said in a statement.
The man, in his 30s, apparently slipped while on one of the upper floors of the Kruger Park building.
“He went down through to the bottom floor where he unfortunately landed on iron rods that pierced through his body,” said Tleane.
The man was declared dead on the scene. The incident took place at around 5.30pm.
The building and the adjacent Schubart Park building, both owned by the City of Tshwane, are set to be imploded after being found to be structurally unfit for habitation.
Police were investigating, Tleane said. - Sapa
