To commemorate International Mandela Day, readers can drop off a blanket at our Durban branch.

Durban - Readers have been asked to support an initiative by the Daily News and British American Tobacco (BAT) to collect blankets to help the needy and in this way commemorate International Mandela Day in July.

Collecting will continue till the eve of

July 18, when the blankets will be presented to the KZN-based charity iCare.

The paper’s marketing manager Shabnum Moosa said: “The Daily News is very excited about our partnership with BAT in honour of Nelson Mandela. We know that with so many South Africans being homeless and destitute, we need to do something to help alleviate their circumstances. Our partnership with BAT gives us the opportunity to exercise our humanity as an organisation by helping our fellow man.”

If you can help, please drop off your blanket at the Daily News’s offices at 18 Osborne Street, Greyville, Durban, before July 17.

Itumeleng Langeni, BAT’s head of corporate communications, said: “Through this blanket drive we are extending our hands to those sections of humanity who most need us to show our humaneness. This is a small way in which our staff and their families show that we are part of humanity.”
