Bloemfontein -

Two men appeared in the Tseki Magistrate's Court in Phuthaditjhaba in connection with for the murder of a Free State policeman.

Police spokesman Colonel Thandi Mbambo said the case against Teko Mphuthi Seboka, 26, and Malefetsane Nhlapo, 35, was postponed to July 9 for bail applications.

Constable Pule Rasebakoa, 35, was last seen on March 8 when he went jogging in the mountains near Masaleng village. The provincial Hawks unit made a breakthrough last week when a man was arrested.

The man took detectives in a police helicopter to point out where a body was hidden, but due to poor visibility at night it could not be retrieved.

On Saturday, a police search and rescue team returned. It took them about three hours to get to the body, and another three hours to bring it down.

Mbambo said Rasebakoa apparently witnessed a stock theft deal in the mountains that involved cattle from Lesotho.

The group allegedly attacked him from behind. He was struck over the head with a rock after being identified as a policeman. He was then apparently dragged down the mountain where he was buried under a pile of rocks.

His relatives identified his body.

Police were still searching for three other men. - Sapa
