Seventeen people were killed in car accidents in the Bojanala District Municipality over the weekend.
|||Bojanala - Seventeen people were killed in car accidents in the Bojanala District Municipality over the weekend, the North West department of public safety said on Monday.
On Saturday, 11 people were killed on the N4 when a Toyota Venture overturned and was hit by another car, spokesman Simon Lesolang Mmope said.
A minibus then crashed into the wreckage.
On Sunday, four people were killed when two cars collided head-on the R24.
On Friday, two men were killed on the N4 when their Mercedes-Benz and Ford Fiesta collided.
North West public safety MEC Nono Maloyi said he was concerned about the increasing number of deaths on the province's main roads.
“I urge motorists not to be speed stars on our road, especially in the evening. Speed kills and today we have all these deaths due to speed.”
Forty-two new traffic officers would be deployed to the province this week to “make the lives of offenders very difficult”, Maloyi said. - Sapa
