Anthropology student Andrew Oberle has been sedated after six hours of surgery to clean his wounds and deal with his injuries after an attack by chimpanzees.
|||Dallas, Texas - A South African hospital says a United States anthropology student attacked by the chimpanzees he was studying remains sedated after six hours of surgery to clean his wounds and deal with his injuries.
Andrew Oberle was talking to a tour group on Thursday at the Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden when two chimps pulled him under a security fence.
He was bitten and dragged several hundred metres.
The Nelspruit Medi-Clinic said on Monday that Oberle remains in intensive care.
His uncle, Carl Oberle, said his nephew had been placed in an induced coma “because he lost so much blood and his blood pressure was so low”. - Sapa-AP
