Johannesburg - The government would investigate the granting of a R22.5 million tender for an HIV test kit banned by the WHO, City Press reported on Sunday.

The tender was awarded in March to Durban-based company Pantech for SD Bioline, a kit banned by the World Health Organisation in January as it gave faulty results.

Pantech's contract would see the company supplying 4.5 million test kits over the next two years.

National Treasury reportedly said it was “reviewing all the decision making processes relating to the tender”.

Pantech spokesman Vuyo Mkhize was quoted as saying: “There were only 66,000 faulty tests out of millions, so it is not necessary to withdraw the product.” - Sapa
