|||Cape Town - A woman emerged unscathed when her car collided with a train at a Western Cape level crossing on Tuesday morning, Metrorail said.
Regional Manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz said the car hit the side of the train at the Simonsvlei level crossing, between Klapmuts and Paarl, at 11.30am. The woman was left in shock but was not injured.
No other injuries were reported and the damage to the train had yet to be assessed.
Swartz said their trains travelled at all times with their lights on and were also obliged to sound their sirens at crossings.
“Despite these safety measures, drivers are reticent to wait until a train has passed before proceeding,” he said.
