A South African woman will appear in a Zambian court on July 25 in connection with the murder of her husband, Beeld reported on Friday.

Estie Pienaar, 33, would then hear if there was enough evidence to prosecute her.

She had not yet been formally charged, international relations department spokesman Nelson Kgwete told Beeld. She was being held in a jail in Sesheke, in the south of the country.

No other arrests had been made in connection with the death of Pienaar's husband Marius, 50.

He disappeared on June 26 in mysterious circumstances at the Nina fishing camp, north of the Caprivi Strip. His body was found nearby, in the Zambezi River, three days later. He is believed to have been hit on the back of the head with a tree stump.

Estie Pienaar had sent an SMS to his family saying she found only his fishing rod and shoes on the river bank. He was apparently in the process of buying the camp.

The man had been a senior technician at Sasol in Secunda before relocating to Mossel Bay and then on to Zambia, where he worked on a copper mine for First Quantum Minerals. – Sapa
