Public Protector Thuli Madonsela promised residents of Cala in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday to analyse their complaints about service delivery.
“Complaints would be analysed to identify matters for each sphere of government,” Madonsela said in a statement.
“I will request urgent action on urgent matters such as the school infrastructure and medical supplies.”
Madonsela began an inquiry last week into problems with RDP houses and the illegal conversion of panel-vans into taxis.
A process of public hearings in every province was launched, starting July 12 and ending August 31.
She told Cala residents that complaints would be dealt with immediately. Systemic issues would form part of her reports at the end of the investigations.
Protector spokeswoman Kgalalelo Masibi said Madonsela listened to the service delivery complaints of hundreds of residents on Wednesday before she addressed them.
“Residents complained about leaking roofs, long waits for occupation of houses despite early approval, and illegal sale(s) of houses.”
Residents claimed taxi owners were opting for cheaper converted panel vans over purpose-built passenger transport minibuses because the latter were too expensive, Masibi said. - Sapa
