|||Eastern Cape safety MEC Helen Sauls-August has called for an end to police killings after a provincial policeman was found dead in his home on Sunday.
“This is an unfortunate, tragic incident for the police in the province and we call on a speedy arrest of those involved in the killing,” Sauls-August said on Monday.
“These police killings will not dampen our efforts of taking the streets back from the criminals.”
The policeman was found with three bullet wounds to his chest. His 9mm service pistol had been stolen, said Sauls-August's office.
This was the third police killing in the province in the past week.
A policeman from Centane was shot dead while he and a colleague pursued suspects who had allegedly robbed people of their cellphones last week.
Another policeman was shot dead in a gun battle with a gang in Ngqeleni. – Sapa
