|||Bloemfontein - The bodies of two babies have been found in separate places in the northern Free State, police said on Thursday.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana said a municipal worker at the Mamahabane sewerage dam in Ventersburg found a baby’s body in a pipe.
The discovery was made when the worker was unblocking the pipe on Wednesday at 8am. The police and paramedics were alerted and it was established it was a three-month-old stillborn baby boy.
The Ventersburg police were investigating a case of concealment of birth.
Also on Wednesday, police were called to the Phumlani graveyard at Thabong, where the body of another baby was found.
Police said a man from a nearby farm was apparently looking for a plastic bag to collect morogo - a type of spinach.
The man picked up a plastic bag stuck into a bush. It contained a baby wrapped in paper. Paramedics concluded the baby probably died after birth.
The bodies were taken to local government mortuaries.
Thabong police opened a case of concealment of birth. No arrests had been made in either case. - Sapa
