A response to Carstens’ representations to the National Directorate of Public Prosecutions was expected on Friday but prosecutor Carmen Daniels said this was still pending.
She told the court that the relevant paperwork had been forwarded to the directorate but that they were still awaiting a decision. She requested a further postponement.
Carstens, who on Friday appeared before magistrate Frederick Louw looking trendy in a navy blazer and skinny jeans, was arrested for drunk driving in Cape Town in December 2010.
His attorney, Milton de la Harpe, said that his client wanted the case finalised, and requested that the matter be struck from the roll.
Magistrate Louw suggested the matter be set down for trial on June 15.
Speaking after the proceedings on Friday, De la Harpe said the DPP could still make a decision in the meantime. If they decided to prosecute, Carstens would reappear in June.
He said they had made representations to the national directorate of public prosecutions regarding the circumstances and the merits of the matter, including representations on the chain of evidence and the result of the blood alcohol test.
Carstens is the lead singer of the Springbok Nude Girls, and a solo artist.
