Bellville, Cape Town -

The Karl Bremer hospital in Bellville, Cape Town, will be able to treat emergency patients from September, Western Cape health MEC Theuns Botha said on Tuesday.

Construction started on a new emergency centre last month, which was expected to be completed soon at a cost of R53 million.

The equipment cost was estimated at R20 million.

“Once the emergency centre is in operation, the hospital will be able to treat trauma patients from the northern and Tygerberg sub-districts, excluding Delft,” Botha said.

“Patients from Delft are expected to use Eersteriver Hospital.”

The hospital presently attends to at least 1000 patients a month, who were usually referred from community health centres.

With the new emergency centre, about 4000 patients a month were expected to be treated. - Sapa
