An elderly man, transporting cooking oil, has died in KZN after his tanker plunged down an embankment.
|||Police are investigating exactly how a 78-year-old man lost his life, after the tanker he was in plunged 25 meters down an embankment on Thursday morning, in Pietermartizburg, KZN.
Netcare911 spokesman Chris Botha said the man had been at a depot in Ortman Road, when the tragedy occurred at about 05h40.
It's believed his tanker was being filled with cooking oil at the time.
“The depot runs on a split level and on the far end of those driveways, is about a 25 meter high embankment, under which the second level runs.”
Botha said, when the driver realised that the tanker would not stop, he jumped out in a bid to save himself.
Tragically, the man fell and he was caught under the wheels of the tanker in the process and dragged down into the embankment. It’s believed the rest of the vehicle then fell on top of him, killing him on impact.
No other injuries were reported. - IOL
