|||The University of the Western Cape will inaugurate new chancellor Thabo Makgoba on Tuesday evening.
“Makgoba was appointed on 24 November last year, but due to the time of his appointment the inauguration will only take place tonight,” UWC Chair of Council Brian Williams said in a statement.
In 2007, 47-year-old Makgoba became the youngest Archbishop of Cape Town.
He succeeds Archbishop Desmond Tutu as UWC chancellor.
Vice-chancellor Brian O'Connell said the university was looking forward to having Makgoba as chancellor.
“Under his watchful eyes and with his blessings, UWC will endeavour to build on its current strengths and excel in every aspect of its mission.”
The office of the ANC Chief Whip in Parliament also welcomed the appointment.
The inauguration would take place at the UWC Bellville Campus at 7pm. – Sapa
