The 36-year-old constable was in uniform, driving a police car, when she was shot twice through the windshield at 6.40pm, Lt-Col Andrè Traut said in a statement.
She was taken to hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her killers fled the scene, at the Islands, Philippi East.
She was unarmed and on her way to collect a parcel from her home in Khayelitsha at the time.
