|||Teachers should not let this week's national strike action interfere with children’s education, the Federation of Governing Bodies of SA Schools (Fedsas) said on Monday.
“Children should not become the victims of adults' problems,” said Fedsas deputy CEO Jaco Deacon.
Teachers and parents should see to it that their involvement in the Congress of SA Trade Unions’ (Cosatu) protest action did not interfere with children’s education.
The school governing body called on all teachers to fulfil their professional obligation to school children.
Cosatu is planning countrywide protests for Wednesday against labour broking and e-tolling.
Deacon expressed concern over Cosatu’s plans to immobilise the country with the strike.
It was not only teachers who had a responsibility towards children, he said.
Fedsas said the country should not have a repeat of the situation in 2010 when schools were disrupted by strikes and the safety of people was threatened.
Fedsas is a voluntary association of school governing bodies of public schools and claims to represent 1300 public schools. - Sapa
