|||KwaZulu-Natal - The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal congratulated 11 newly-elected chairs of the province's Local Houses of Traditional Leaders on Tuesday .
One of them was Inkosi Victoria Dube, the first women to chair a local house in this sector, the ANC's provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said in a statement on Tuesday.
Dube was now the chairwoman of the Uthungulu House.
Zikalala said this was historically perceived as a male dominated sector.
“That male amakhosi can choose to elect a woman to lead them is also indicative... that the gospel of non-sexism espoused in our country’s Constitution is permeating every sphere of life in our society...”
The other 10 were elected to different houses.
“The ANC believes that the reconstitution of the houses and the election of new members will inject more energy and pace towards service delivery,” said Zikalala.
“The ANC invites the newly-elected members of the houses of traditional leaders to partner with government in accelerating the much-needed service delivery.” - Sapa
